Louisiana is already a sportsman's paradise. Combine that with Lafayette's great food, music, and Cajun and Creole culture - you have the perfect mix of everything for Dad. Whether he's a fisherman, a foodie, a die-hard sports fan, or a history buff, Lafayette has plenty to offer for you and Dad to spend a day exploring.

Outdoor Activities

Weather - Fishing

If your old man is a fisherman, take the boat down to Henderson for a day spent on the Atchafalaya Basin. There are many boat ramps along Henderson Levee Rd. No boat, no worries. McGee's Louisiana Swamp & Airboat Tours offers trips throughout the basin.

If swinging a golf club is more his speed than a fishing rod, head over to the Wetlands Golf Course for a day spent golfing. End it with dinner and a cocktail at the clubhouse.

If you're looking for a more relaxed pace, enjoy Moncus Park. You and Dad can stroll along the paths, sit and chat on the benches surrounding the pond, or picnic under the oaks.

Music & History

Back to Top of List

Playing the Accordion at Vermilionville

If your dad is a history buff, you can always explore the historic Acadian Village or Vermilionville to learn more about the history of the Acadian, Creole, and Native American cultures.

Or head to Avery Island for a tour of the TABASCO Factory and a hangout in the Jungle Gardens. Our hot sauce staple has an interesting history that all dads will love.

If he's into music, The Blue Moon Saloon in Lafayette and La Poussiere in Breaux Bridge are both historic, traditional Cajun dance halls that still have performances by local musicians. Visit Lafayette Weekly for a rundown of live music in and around Lafayette Parish.

Food & Drink

Back to Top of List

Dean-O's South Restaurant

If your dad is a native, he surely has his favorite spots for food. If he's not, what better way to show him how we do things here in Lafayette. Cajun Food Tours are a best bet for dads with discerning tastes.

If he's more into beverages, embark on a brewery tour by starting at Parish Brewing, stopping in town at Adopted Dog Brewery, and landing at Bayou Teche Brewing in Arnaudville.

No food trail would be complete without boudin, so hit up all the spots: Billy's, Don's, Best Stop, and NuNu's - all located in Scott.

UL Sports Schedule

If Dad is the sports fanatic in the family, we have plenty of options here too. Take him to a Ragin Cajuns baseball game in the spring or a football game in the fall. UL game-day tailgating is an experience all in itself.

If you can't make it to a Saints game, places like Pete's are great sports bars where you can watch the game and nibble on great food.

If the two of you want to be more involved in the sport, check out All the Rage in Broussard. You and Dad can pick up bats and smash stuff.

Comic Con

If you and your dad are more likely to bond over video games, Star Wars, and trivia than golf or football, we've got that too! Keep an eye out for Louisiana Comic Con, an annual comic conference in Lafayette.

Check out the Escape Room together for an adventure of solving a mystery puzzle.

Stop at local shops such as Play N Trade or Game Stop to go on a hunting spree for that special vintage video game.

Or, challenge each other to a night of trivia—Broaddus Burgers, Hideaway on Lee, and Burgersmith host them weekly.
